ABOUT FACE TO FACE
New Oakland Child-Adolescent and Family Center's core programming
model is a partial day program entitled FACE to FACE. The
FACE to FACE Crisis Intervention and Assessment Program is
a 5-7 day program that helps children, adolescents, adults
and families through challenging mental health related issues.
Beginning in the spring of 1994, the FACE to FACE Program
has expanded to include the following clinical programatic
models of care:
Crisis Intervention, Assessment and Day Milieu: FACE
to FACE is a Seven Step Approach that focuses on intensive
home-based community care through individual and family treatment.
This short-term innovative program utilizes a multi-disciplinary
approach to assess, intervene and empower the family to work
towards resolution of the presenting problem. The therapeutic
day milieu is the place where, through staff observation,
psychiatric evaluation, individual, family, group and art
therapy, the individual is challenged to develop new coping
skills. Psychological testing is utilized when appropriate.
FACE to FACE is an approach to wellness which services clients
through five distinct treatment approaches:
Crisis Intervention: In some families the
conflict may be so severe and destructive that it prevents
the family from growing and relating to one another in healthy
ways. The aim is to help families through this crisis, help
them recognize future conflicts before they reach the crisis
stage and to give special help when needed.
Three Day ADHD Assessment: This program
is a comprehensive and practical approach to helping frustrated
children, parents and educators to understand where the individual’s
impediments to learning occur. This is accomplished through
psychological testing and observation of the individual by
the milieu staff.
Substance Abuse: FACE to FACE provides
assessment, intensive individual, group and family therapy
utilizing the Seven Step Approach in the treatment and recovery
of individuals with chemical and alcohol dependency. Using
the Theme Centered Interactional (TCI) method to facilitate
family communication, the individual and family journey through
the seven steps to break the cycle of alcoholism and other
types of drug problems.
Eating Disorders: Characterized by self-starvation
and/or binge eating, eating disorders equally affect all
ethnics and people of all socio-economic levels. Through
the FACE to FACE - Seven Step Approach, the individual and
family is educated about this illness and dealing with the
crisis of interfamily functioning while the treatment team
focuses on intervention, overall stabilization with the emphasis
on achieving wellness.
Afternoon and Evening Program: This
short-term, intensive, innovative program compliments the
existing day services program and empowers the family unit
to work toward awareness and resolution of the presenting
conflict. Flexible entry times allow you to arrive at the
program at 2:30 p.m. for assessment and intake, therapeutic
intervention along with Theme Centered Interactional (TCI)
process during your stay in the FACE to FACE Afternoon
and Evening Program. In addition, the youngsters have scheduled
supervised homework time and a recreational activity.
